The River Beneath the River

The River Beneath the River is a curatorial and artistic research project initiated by Dimitra Tsiaouskoglou, as a continuation of the 2019 Electris - How to think like a mountain project. The main activities took place in Samothraki island between July and September 2021, with a grant from the Hellenic Ministry of Culture.

The project focuses on community practices which engage the local rural and particularly the farming community. In total, five artists and the curator have worked on-site for research, documentation, meetings with farmers and workshop-based activities. This stage of the project has delved deeper into matters of rural artistic production based on collaboration and has researched environmental and sustainable practices taking into account particular nuances of the locale.
